Montana Kayak Academy Youth Classes
Level 1/2: Essentials of RIver Kayaking
The Essentials of River Kayaking course is designed to teach beginner paddlers to safely and enjoyably kayak on gentle rivers. This class is designed as a beginner course to introduce students to safety on water, maneuvers, strokes and commonly used rescue techniques. This class takes place on local lakes over the course of two consecutive nights. Please see MKAs’ schedule to see availability and times!
Level 3: River Kayaking
The River Kayaking course is a program emphasizing safety, enjoyment and skills used to paddle a kayak on whitewater. This class is designed to take Level 2 paddlers to the next step. Students will begin to learn river reading skills and the fundamentals of river currents. Students will take the maneuvers and strokes learned in the level 1/2 course and use them to successfully run Class I and II local rivers. This class will be held on local lakes and gentle moving rivers over the course of two consecutive nights. Please see MKAs’ schedule to see availability and times!
Level 4: Whitewater Kayaking/H2O Joes’ slalom Kayaking
MKA is so proud to have begun a slalom kayak training program called H2O Joes’. Students graduating from Level 1, 2 and 3 courses are welcomed to put their skills to the test racing through gates in river rapids. The idea is simple; go as fast as possible with out missing or hitting the gates. Advanced paddling skills will be taught to students which will benefit a young paddler for a lifetime.
